Australia
Launched to the height of hype, Baz Luhrman's latest film Australia, has been embraced by some and trashed by others so we sent our very own film critic, Kate, along to suss out just what it's all about.
After 2 hours and 45 minutes I can tell you the film is fabulous and well worth the duration!
Set in the Northern Territory in 1939, the plot is driven by the outback landscape and the need to maintain the upkeep of a cattle station. Whilst drama contributes a lot to making this immediate plot interesting, it is the multiple sub-plots that really encapsulate the viewer. There is a blossoming relationship between Hugh Jackman's character Drover and Nicole Kidman's character Lady Ashley, that develops with the love and admiration for a young indigenous boy, Nulla.
Nulla, his family and the head of the tribe, King George, are what really makes this movie worthy. I was sitting in the movie theatre thinking how could the U.S market, or any other market for that matter, not love the authentic and genuine flavour that flows through these characters?
After the livestock on the cattle station, Faraway Downs, is threatened, it takes the likes of Lady Ashley, Drover, Nulla, Nulla's mother and others to drive the cattle to Darwin city. With the sadness of death, frustration over the local mission imprisoning half cast children and the Bombing of Darwin leaving the land in total despair, this movie is both heart wrenching and empowering.
Next time you feel like making a day at the mall, keep aside a few hours for this awesome and completely reassuring perspective on 1939 Australia.

Quantum of Solace
Probably my favourite Bond movie to date. The Quantum of Solace opens with an intense car chase scene through the quaint and rocky streets of Italy. From the opening credits you are catapulted into a world of fast cars, blockbuster explosions and countless killing sprees - all in the smooth style of Bond, of course!
The 22nd Bond film, Quantum of Solace, is based on a quest for revenge. With his last love interest murdered by his arch rival Vesper, Bond is even more ticked off and motivated to capture this villan than ever before.
Camille, played by Olga Kurylenko, whose family were murdered by the same villan becomes an ally in his mission.
Whilst compared in the media to the infamous Bourne Series, Director Marc Forster really upped the ante to show that James Bond is still a crowd favourite. The Quantum of Solace smashed UK box office records in the first week of its release bringing in more than $1.5 million.
The Quantum of Solace is a great movie to take the boy along to for some extra brownie points. What he won't know is that you will totally enjoy it and most definitely like it more than he does.

Animals in Love
This French Documentary is for the animal lovers. Whilst there is no dramatic plot driving the film, it will provide you with all the wonders and wavers of the animal kingdom.
The film promotes the slogan "cute versions of ourselves", which allows you to make the link between the animal life and the human life.
From ferocious tigers to the awkward manners of the tall giraffe, you will not stop gawking at these gorgeous beings.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian DVD
Disney
The sequel to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe follows the Pevensie children one year later, when they are transported back to Narnia where over 1,000 years have passed and the golden age of Narnia is over.
This takes them on a new adventure to try and save Narnia. With a host of new creatures, this is visually captivating and a great tale. A great DVD to own and watch over and again.
