Fictions
More like excuses than fictions! Check out BB's list of tanning and UV exposure fictions:
- Direct sun exposure is healthy.
Are you kidding yourself? Yes sun provides you with Vitamin D which is important for the overall growth and development of your skin, but this is meant specifically in small doses and without direct UV exposure. - If I burn I will tan.
Again silly. The self convinced notion that a severe burn will lead to an effortless looking tan just screams uneducated. Are you aware that sunburn can lead to sunstroke, painful blisters and scaring? Maybe next time you wont be so careless. - It is not cool to be sun safe.
What do you think is more uncool? Putting on sun lotion, wearing sunnies and sleeves or having to miss the next party because you have to have a cancer removed from your face? Hmmm… - Skin cancers only occur in old age.
This is a common misconception. The fact of the matter is, is that skin cancer evolves from a young age. Whilst it may not be visible, growths maybe forming without you even noticing.
Fundamental Skin Care Strategies
When looking for an effective sun tan lotion it is important to purchase an SPF 30+ for guaranteed coverage. You may find some everyday moisturizes carry a quantity of sun tan lotion but it essential to look for this tag.
If you are planning a day in the sun without a shade covering, be sure to apply your SPF 30+ sun tan lotion every few hours.
Slip Slop Slap
An oldie but a goody, this successful educational campaign promotes decent skin measures. Simply slip on a shirt, slop on your sunscreen and slap on a hat!
Pledge
As BB members we would love you to get onboard with our concern for sun safety this summer.
It is important that you consult your local GP If you feel any concerns about UV sun exposure. To be sun safe you must also employ occasional trips to the doctor for check ups… early detection saves lives!
Check your skin regularly to pick up any changes that might suggest a skin cancer. Look for any sores that have not healed, small lumps which are flaky, red or pearly in colour, new sun spots i.e. freckles, moles etc.
