Get real is a new campaign part of the Bellaboo website aimed at getting the message out there to get real about role models, beauty, body image, self esteem.
Who do you look up to and what do you think it takes in a person
to be a positive role model?
Debra Ades (Deb) My role model
is my older sister. She is not famous in any sense and she is quite different
to me but she is someone who is extremely focused and level headed. In
my family she is the academic one and growing up I think that is something
about her that I envied. Instead of relishing this feature that I loved
about her I rebelled, so I was a lot wilder. I know I don't want to be
her but it has taken me all my life to realise that it is something I
should aspire to be like rather than be jealous of. There are just so
many elements of her that I wish I could just have. She is extremely secure
and truly beautiful inside and out.
Kirk Jenkins (Andy) For me it is Bob Marley. He was always very honest and truthful. When someone asked him why he was so rebellious and why he pushed against injustice and authority he said; "my life is my life my and my right is my right". To me this meant that no matter who someone is, whether it be John Howard, Kevin Rudd, Brad Pitt or anyone of considerable power, who is put on a pedestal, we can push past those boundaries and live in our own freedom. That was what Bob Marley was about. He believed everybody had the right to expression and individuality. So let's get together and feel alright u know - one love!
Lachlan Buchanan (Jesse) For me it's Steve Irwin, I've always been inspired from him. Apart from being a celebrity, he shows that you can stand up for yourself and be noticed. It is something I think we need now in society. To show that we can do great things together, such as land and wildlife conservation, as he has. His career aside, he was just a cool person who was extremely honest with himself and others. And giving.
Rebecca Breed (Leah) I think I have fallen in love with lots of dif things from lots dif people. I think there is a bright side to everyone and beautiful things you can find in all sorts of people from different walks of life. I look at my best friend who is married to a respectable man and who is the most beautiful wife. She finds her happiness in family and sharing with the ones she loves whether it is baking muffins or whatever. On the other hand my other friend is studying to be a dentist in order to work over in Africa to aid people with severe dental issues. So instead of practicing gluttony with her pay packet she is doing selfless deeds for others.
Ben Miliken (Nathan) I have always looked up to Mohammed Ali. He was a person that always stood firm for what he believed and was willing to lose everything for it. While he, like I and the rest of us, is not perfect and while I don't believe in some of the things he did, he was able to break through a lot of bad things in his life. He became a leader and did amazing things for America, the developing cities of America and the sport of boxing.
