Here's what happened to one girl….

When a 12 year old girl, Lisa*, was playing an online game she was approached by another player to trade items for game credits. After chatting for some time during the game with the other player Lisa agreed to continue chatting via MSN.

After chatting for sometime the other player revealed his name as John* and he was 40 years old. For some time John had avoided the request to provide his a/s/l (age sex location), by saying he was too old. Lisa had previously advised John she was 12 years old.

Despite learning his age Lisa continued to converse with John. During their conversations Lisa told John she needed more game credits. John suggested Lisa needed to give him something in exchange for the game credits. John suggested she send some pictures of herself via MSN.

Lisa complied with this request and sent some pictures of her self to John. Lisa was clothed in these pictures. John told Lisa he liked the pictures.

Lisa chatted to John nearly everyday and would talk to him for hours. She built up a strong relationship with John and considered him to be a good friend. She would tell John all sorts of personal details about her life and family. She would talk and he would listen.

After a period of time, as they chatted John would bring up the subject of sex. John would describe some of his sexual encounters from the past and talk about his non existent sex life with his wife. He would ask Lisa about what she had done sexually with boys of her own age and ask her to describe what she had done.

John would then tell Lisa what he would like to do with her sexually and describe it in detail. He wanted Lisa to visit him so as he could actually do what he had described.

As time went on Lisa again told John she needed some more game credits. John again suggested she send pictures of her self, but this time it should show what she looked like without her clothes on. Lisa complied with request as she had built up a strong relationship with John and was obsessed with the game and the prizes.

Lisa complied with John's request and she took some sexually explicit photographs of herself and sent them to John via MSN.

Later during chats John activated his webcam for Lisa to view. During the webcam sessions John showed Lisa he was naked from the waist down and exposed his erect penis to her and masturbated.

John asked Lisa keep their relationship private and not to tell her parents.

Lisa then stopped sending images of herself to John. John then told Lisa if she did not send more pictures of herself he would send the pictures she had previously sent to her friends via the internet.

Lisa had the good sense to contact the police via the Virtual Global Taskforce Report Abuse button online, and explained her story. Her report was taken up and investigated by the AFP.

When police did speak to John, child abuse images were located on his computer along with the images sent by Lisa and chat logs of the conversations between Lisa and John.

John was charged with grooming a child and downloading child pornography. He will be pleading guilty and is yet to be sentenced.
