Celebrity Access: Dollie Mix

Ever wondered what it would be like to be in a girl band? Bellaboo has scored an interview with the next big thing in girl band land – Dollie Mix,a funky trio of Brit girls – Mandy Giltjes, Abigail Scott and Nina Moore. The girls are about to go global with their very cool RnB/Pop sounds. We talk to Nina, from Dollie Mix, about their journey so far…..

Dollie Mix was formed when Mandy, 25, teamed up with UK Unsigned to run a competition – Mandy Finds A Band - to find two more members for a girl band. A hotly contested comp, as you can well imagine, ended with Nina, 25, and Abigail, 20, completing the line up. This is no bubble pop band based on looks vs talent – these girls can sing!!! Strong vocals, and now working with some of the best in the music biz, they are headlined as the next big super girl group. Check out their story.

You were formed as part of an UK Unsigned competition. Tell us about that experience…
Mandy, together with sponsors UK Unsigned, put this competition together to find two other members to form a girl band. Hundreds of girls were auditioned over a period of about six months. It was a great experience. You meet so many new people. And, in this industry, contacts are everything. There was a fair bit of travelling to the auditions each time but it’s all part of the excitement and it has definitely been worth it!!

UK Unsigned is a pretty competitive and high profile event – how did it feel to win?
We were just so happy to be picked at the final. We had worked so hard over those months and got to know some of the contestants well. We didn't want it to end.

You are joining some pretty impressive previous UK Unsigned participants, such as Leona Lewis and Flawless – do you find that inspiring?
It’s always inspiring to have someone so successful and talented who have followed the same path as you. You just know you are on the right path following in their footsteps. It makes the whole music business seem a lot smaller and more realistic when you know you’re following a similar path to someone so famous and talented.

Explain your music style?
Our music is modern RnB/Pop.

What has been the highlight so far?
Definitely all the people I have met over the journey. Working with our choreographer, who has worked with Kylie Minogue and Pink... exciting!! All the photo shoots we have had…it’s so much fun doing them in a band rather than solo. The pampering we had from our make-up and hair stylists when we did our first headline gig at the UK Unsigned Finals. We were looked after on the night so much it felt we were already famous.

What are the plans for Dollie Mix in terms of touring/albums?
Dollie Mix has already performed at the Hackney Empire in London and we have gigs lined up at Earls Court and The O2. We are working closely with our management at the moment and will hopefully have a single out soon that we believe will be a No.1 hit. Please check out our Myspace for up to date info on Gigs and Music.

What’s it like being part of a girl band?
It’s fantastic being part of a girl band. You have each others support and you become a little family. It’s worked out so well because we all get on so well. We are always having a laugh. I feel like I have known the girls for years when it’s only a few months.

Which girl band would you compare yourself to?
We can't really compare ourselves to anyone because we believe we are so unique. I know we will have elements and influences of many top artists who inspire us.

What differentiates you from other girl bands?
1. We all LOVE performing live. So many bands lack the edge on stage. Some mime as well. We don't, we perform everything Live.
2. We have very strong and powerful voices.
3. We dance and will always give a performance you won't forget!!
