Celebrity Access: Zac Efron

Kate chats to Zac Efron on the red carpet of his Australian premiere, 17 Again. To find out more on her introduction with the Hollywood hunk, click here and see for yourself.

My ears are still throbbing from the girlish squeals at intolerable decibels that only dogs can hear. I am completely shaking and totally mesmerised. I am gushing with a school girl smile and I should feel totally stupid, but for some reason I just don't care. No, I'm not dreaming, I just spoke to Zac Efron and even better, he just touched my arm!!!

Standing on the carpet of Zac Efron's new movie 17 Again, I was completely in awe (and partly annoyed, mind you) at the amount of screaming girls who claim to be Zac Efron's one true love. There were desperate girls holding signs which read 'marry me', some were crying and one girl admitted to feeling so sick she could have thrown up… ew! My personal favourite was the guy standing directly across from me. He had a stern hard look on his face as if he was just there supervising his girlfriend and with one quick glimpse of Mr Efron, he stripped off his jacket to reveal his I love you Zac t-shirt!

With a guest list of celebs, including the too gorgeous Taylor Swift, Panjo 5, equally hot Jason Dundas and Laura Dundovic, bursting down the red carpet in total anticipation of the leading man and his new movie, I thought to myself, wow what is the big deal? So he is a movie star and yeah he is pretty cute, rich and famous, but I just can't see why one single person can attribute so much attention. And then…. "Hi I'm Zac"…. three simple little introductory words left me totally swooning, mentally vacant and star struck.

Whilst this moment may very well be potential social suicide on my part, Zac (being the gentlemen he is) brushed it off with a smirk and a slight light hearted giggle at my expense. To assume my recovery, I fired back with diversion about the insane number of marriage proposals and teenage girls wanting to get their piece of Zac action (even though I knew I was getting mine.) Zac laughed once more, turned around and invited one large roar from the crowd, and said; "I love it, I just say yes to everyone."

To get down to the seriousness of his latest movie 17 Again, I asked him about his part as Mike O'Donnell, the high-school hunk turned future divorcee. With a background in musicals he explained how he landed this role. "It was a long process, when I was first approached with the idea I really didn't know what to think. At first it seemed a little scary but after I had the chance to talk with Burr Steers, who was directing the film, he convinced me that this would be a fun film to make and a fun character to play. The film was very different from anything else that I was used to which was good."

As his publicist was pulling him away, my desperation for just one more second with Zac got the best of me as I asked about his co-star and my fav Friends star Matthew Perry. What seemed like a dud question, Zac quickly stepped back in my direction away from his publicist with the joy of describing the experience of working beside him, "he is amazing, what a nice guy. Matt is laid back, really chill and seriously he was more a 17-year-old than I was at the time!"

With a wink and a quick thanks, Zac walked away with his James Bond-esque like manner toward the next group of anxious journalists awaiting there chance to be dazzled by him and his thoughts on his latest release, 17 Again.
