Beauty Raves: Barbie-esque makeover

Get the Barbie look with an ultra high-fashion Barbie-esque makeover. Bellaboo's own makeup expert, Susie Brodie, shows us how!

Traditionally, the Barbie-inspired look has often been associated with being fake, plastic and has been down right criticised. So, after this evolving trend was flaunted on the catwalks in fashion mecca's worldwide this season, we thought it only right to jump on board this high-fashion fixation and transform it onto the faces of every-day girls.

Susie shows you how to get this flawless and totally awesome look without the plastic stereotype.

Step 1- The Base
Be sure to choose a foundation to match your skin tone. Analyse your skin type. If you are particularly oily then you perhaps would choose a foundation that is oil-free, water base or a light powder base to make sure there are no excess oils being added to your skin.

When applying your foundation, start in the feature focus area of the face (nose and cheeks) Using preferably a foundation brush or sponge, gently work the foundation diagonally down and out so by the time the foundation reaches the outer edges of the face there shouldn't be much product left on your applicator. This will ensure you won't be left with a makeup line and the base will be incredibly even and flawless.

Tip: If you have chosen a liquid base, lightly dust a translucent or compact powder over the top to set your liquid for a longer lasting finish.

Step 2 - Cheeks
Now that we have completely evened out the skin tone using our foundation tools, it is now important to re-surface your natural colouring. This can be done by soft and subtle blush and luminisers.

To create that gorgeous Barbie-esque shine lightly dust blush on the apples of the cheeks. To create Barbie's perfect high cheekbones, press blush into the pocket of the cheekbone.

Tip: To get the full effect of a glowing complexion use a luminiser with a cream formulation, such as Napoleon Perdis Colour Veil. Simply pump out a 5c piece amount onto the back of your hand, warm it up by using your index finger in a circular motion and gently pat it into the cheek.

Tip: To clearly establish the "apple" of the cheek, give a big grin. To contour, suck your lips in like a fish and that's where you will find the pocket of the cheek.
