Dream job checklist: meet and greet celebs – check. Deal with the media on a daily basis – check. Be creative, challenged and get to go to loads of gigs for free – check. We meet the girl who lives the life of a music publicist for Universal Music Australia and get the low-down on what it’s like to work our dream job!!!
What is your job title and what does your role entail?
My job title is National Digital Promotions Manager at Universal Music Australia, and I look after the publicity of our artists via online media.
When we associate your role to "dream job", how does that make you
feel?
To be honest, it feels a little strange! Admittedly, I do have a great job, and have had a lot of memorable experiences, but like any job it does have many challenges to keep you on your toes!
What do you love most about your job?
It's fantastic to have some small role in the release of an artist's album...and with Universal Music you get to work with a variety of artists - from developmental to established, so it's fascinating to see how it all rolls out. Also, I've met some amazing people, and seen some amazing shows.
How does it challenge you?
The main challenge is the nature of working with online media...it's a relatively new medium so it's always challenging to figure out new ways of doing things, and setting up promotions that are engaging and different.
What are some of the coolest people you have met throughout your career?
I've had the good fortune of meeting many of our artists, however meeting Lady Gaga was pretty memorable - all sunglasses, lipstick and lycra!
A defining moment for you was?
Sitting in my first ever meeting at Universal Music - I was blown away with the amount of brains, preparation and planning required to put out an album. Before working at a record label, like most people, I had no idea the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes….I just used to happily buy an album and think nothing of it!!
Was this something you always wanted to do?
No, I never thought I would work at a record label. Initially, I wanted to be a journalist, and studied communication at Uni...From there, I started working as a radio show producer, and then went into radio promotions and marketing, and when I wanted a change from radio, working at a record company felt like a natural progression.
Who are some of your favourite artists atm?
I've just gotten my hands on some new songs from Daniel Merriweather's
new album (out in May) and it's been on repeat ever since. Check him out
on his MySpace - www.myspace.com/danielmerriweather

At the Arias, and hanging with Lady GaGa.
