Whether it's Balenciaga, Dior, Versace or Vera, the one shoulder style has quickly become a unanimous and show-stopping trend world wide.
Complimenting the curves and femininity of the female body, one shoulder pieces are usually best spotted between Grecian and geometric/masculine styles. This juxtaposition speaks volumes in the fashion stakes, sure to be an evolving trend that we will love and embrace for centuries to come.
Kate shows you the many ways you can wear it, how to pull it off and, of course, the who's who of iconic one-shoulder wearing celebs gracing the fashion pages for this on-trend style.
The one shoulder phenomenon
Fashion bloggers and designers alike are jumping onto the one shoulder
phenomenon with one clear message…Embrace it! While it did make its way
back to the cut throat world of fashion in the late 1990's it has been
said that 2009 is it's reigning return from the frightful years of the
1980's. From bold and bright to sassy and sweet you will be sure to find
a one shoulder style that suits.
How to wear it
At Bellaboo we suggest simplicity as the key to red carpet rocking style.
The great thing about the one shoulder style is that it is completely
open to all body shapes. Yes, that's right, it's not another one of those
styles that only chicks with a big bust and great legs can wear! It's
a style that will flatter your shoulders and all that your rocking body
has to offer.
Small bust: opt for detailing on the top half of the garment. Whether its gathering, a bandeau top or excess material, it's all about adding the illusion of an extra something without those unwanted bust enhancers.
Long waist: this is where decoration and added fixture works in your favour. Your best friend would have to be mid-torso gathering, clips or eye catching detail. This season it's all about understated bling, so go all SJP on your fav frock of the season.
Length: The hem is everything when it comes to the one shoulder style. As this style is noticeably geometric, you need to keep your proportions in tact and know what works for you. Long legs, go for the maxi style. The maxi was a hot trend in 08 and one we don't see slowing down any time soon. For you petitite pretties, go for a mini. By mini, we don't mean under you bum cheek short, we suggest something modest and mid thigh. That way you can show off your sort after stems and keep your gorgeous outfit the centre of attention.
