The Sweet Life
Girlfriend (Fiction 7).
Allen and Unwin
The Sweet life is a book with varied emotions of sadness, mystery and adventure.
Janey, the only child to her once teen mother Lydia is forced to live on her own after her mother suddenly passed away. A letter leading to an astranged adventure takes her to Italy where she is introduced into another world. With great food, fashion, boys and a new sense of family, Janey begins to move on from her grief. The twist in the story, she has a cyberspace stalker. Ok maybe not in the dangerous sense of the word stalker, but Janey finds she is not as ignored and unwanted as some might think Yep, Janey the awkwardly tall seemingly distant girl that only ever trusted her three best friends..
All in all, this is an easy read, great for a summer weekend by the beach.
Cassie
Girlfriend (Fiction 8)
Allen and Unwin
Holly Holley is a struggling teenager who truly believes she is so average she is not worth the time. Holly hates her name, the way that she looks and more generally, her life!
Because of this she finds her self hanging around the people that are the least likely to be noticed- which makes it hard for her to score a date with the school hotty Ralph.
To her intial dismay, her much more attractive and positive cousin Cassie comes to stay. Whilst an inconvenience at first (She is forced to move rooms into the spare room which is eeew gross!) Holly becomes inspired to change her ways. Even to the point of a fashion and cosmetic make-over. This is a great book for any girl in need of inspiration. The underlying theme is be yourself …which we think is a whole lot better than trying to be someone else!
