Books: My life and other catastrophes
By Rowena Mohr
Allen & Uwin

This is the first of a series centred on teen life and part of a series under the banner of Girlfriend fiction. This first book is Bridget Jones for the teen set. It follows the similar diary style writing and wittiness but with a definite teen flavour in terms of the issues covered and the language.
This is the story of Erin Costello and the dramas she faces over 6 months of her life. That drama includes bestie abandonement; pesty brother; dealing with her mother's creepy new boyfriend, aptly nicknamed Creepazoid; dealing with news about her father that will rock her world; getting involved in the school play and meeting a guy who suddenly becomes an ever-present figure in her life and who himself has countless issues.
Her diary is proof that even when you think your life is totally boring and nothing is happening you would be surprised just how much you have going on when are writing and recounting your life. It's inspiration to get a diary started just to see how interesting your life really is!
The second book launched at the same time is Indigo Girls by Penni Russo but we didn't get round to reading that one yet! The Girlfriend fiction series is all about teen fiction centred around what's happening with teens now and in this country. It is reflective of real life, real emotions and real stories. What is there not to love?!
