“You can't smell the roses when you're gone, you can't smell the roses, no it's not a rehearsal you only get one life so make it right…” Darren Hayes,
Darren Hayes, Secret Codes and Battleships.
Until a month ago, I had never heard of Australian artist Darren Hayes, but now I absolutely love his album Secret Codes and Battleships. A lot of the songs have to do with love. The whole album is very mellow, relaxing, and easy to listen to. As I listened to this CD, the song that I was drawn to the most was “Roses.” “Roses” is a song about living your life for the moment and having no regrets. This song makes you think and helps you realize that we won’t have forever so we should do what we want to and need to without putting it off. Overall this is a wonderful CD and is great if you’re looking for a different sound to listen to. I feel like there aren’t many artists with this type of sound around and it makes Secret Codes and Battleships very unique.

“It’s okay not to be okay. Sometimes it’s hard to follow your heart. Tears don’t mean you’re losing, everybody’s bruising, just be true to who you are.” Jessie J, Who You Are
Jessie J, Who You Are
By now, most people have heard of Jessie J and her songs “Price Tag” and “Domino.” So when I went to listen to her CD, I was excited to hear more of her music. As I listened I really enjoyed the tracks “My Shadow,” “Laserlight,” and “Do It Like a Dude.” But the song that stood out the most to me was “Who You Are.” It screams volumes about being true to yourself and what we let society tell us to do to ourselves. We question why we constantly try to make ourselves perfect but we do it anyways. Sometimes, we almost lose ourselves completely trying to be someone else and we forget who we truly are. This song really explores that and makes a statement. This is such a powerful song on her album and it tells listeners that it’s okay to be who you are. This album has some fun songs that you can jam out to, but “Who You Are” takes the album up a step and gives listeners, especially those struggling with self-esteem, a good message, and courage to just be yourself.
"Lift up your head, it's gonna be okay. You'll see the beauty in the clouds someday."
Tayler Buono, It’ll Only Get Better
I recently received a demo copy of “It’ll Only Get Better” by Tayler Buono and I am extremely hooked on it. The song expresses what many teens go through daily but can’t talk about. She found a way to not only talk about suffering and struggling in daily life but also to offer strength and advice to those who are. In the end everything will be better and the pain will go away, that is the message in this song. Honestly, we all need to hear this message because we all have our off days and there aren’t too many people telling us it’ll be okay. This song is definitely inspirational. Make sure you check out our video featuring her song.
