Bellaboo Hall of Shame

Hey Boos, we are getting all vigilante and will post ads/marketing that we think sucks. The ads you see in this space are either making girls feel bad, sending out the wrong messages or simply doing wrong by girls.

Lynx
Why? Why does a body wash need to feature a semi-clad girl with very fake boobs with the invitation of washing her obviously dirty bod? This one is alluding to dirty girls, is playing on girls bodies to sell body wash and is just wrong. Oh, and did we mention that Lynx is a male range - why don't they feature a semi-naked boy then?

Tom Ford Fragrance
This is an ad that appeared in US mag - not sure if the campaign has hit here - for a woman's fragrance. Yup, nude girl with huge boobs and almost blow up doll mouth, squeezing a bottle of fragrance, which is def phallic symbolic, between her breasts. Do we need to explain why this is just sooooo totally crass?!

Botox
Are we reading this right - an ad for botox for girls as young as 18. This is from the States, here in Oz, you are not allowed to advertise botox by name, but still wrong and so very scary? Are we getting this, they are telling girls as young as 18 that they may need to inject poison into their bods to get rid of wrinkles. Do 18 year olds even have wrinkles? And, what's wrong with your life lines? We could write an entire paper around how wrong, shameful and disgusting this is!

Daisy by Marc Jacobs
This sweety, girly scent is targeted at young girls so why do they need to feature a semi-naked girl, lolling about in a field, rubbing a bottle of fragrance against her boobs looking enraptured???? Seriously, why do we need to use half naked girls and sex to sell to young girls?

Google ad
Young girls with big boobs as the o's in google enticing people to find what they are looking for. And what exactly would the perves who respond to this kind of sexually explicit and exploitive creative be searching for? We can bet it ain't a self help group for empowering women!

Silly us – is it not obvious to use a nude girl to advertise computers? Seriously, what is the deal with young nude girls being used to advertise stuff that has absolutely no need or relevance to nudity? I mean a computer geek is sure to rush out and buy a mac based on this ad, right?

I think the Daisy by Marc Jacobs ad is really disappointing because it could have been really good + positive.

I agree! I love the scent of Daisy, but that ad is just wrong.

Thats gross! The media shouldn't have to show half naked women just to sell their products. But its a shame because it actually makes lots of girls turn into something they are not just to be "cool". Im sure there are heaps of other alternatives to advertising products besides half naked women.

Emmm, sex sells, but I doubt it sells to women/girls. I'm not saying it's not bad, but what audience is that US Magazine targeting? I'm thinking bachelors, not teen girls.
