Shame On 2day!
Earlier this week, hosts Kyle and Jackie O of Australia’s number one breakfast show on 2Day FM, held a segment that lead a 14 year old girl to relive the pain of her rape, just two years prior.
Strapped to a lie detector test, the girls mother confronted her daughter about drugs, alcohol and then proceeded to ask about her sexual activity, even when the girl told her to stop. “It’s not funny… I was raped when I was 12 ok”, the girl screamed!
While Jackie O pulled the segment immediately, Kyle moved forward with a question to see whether or not that was the only sexual experience that she had had at her tender age!
The girl was obviously disturbed, distressed and placed in a very vulnerable situation, not to mention on live national radio!
As a listener, it made me sick to my stomach that a 14 year old girl would be even legally allowed by the station to be placed on a lie detector test!
What kind of mother could coax her daughter to do such a thing? For entertainment value, the honest truth or whatever pathetic reason it may have been for, this event should be seen as a black cloud over 2day FM (admittedly my favourite station).

2dayfm is also my favourite radio station as well. I was disappointed with the way Kyle handed the situation but I do not believe getting a lie detector that would be broadcasted nationally was the right thing for the mother to do. However I do not believe that the figure should be solely pointed at Kyle and Jackie O, other people were involved as well.
